Your Weekend Wow!

This mega “Wow!” comes courtesy of my internet buddy Nessa (thank you!) who kindly shared the link from Les Arts Decoratif. The museum has dated it c. 1867, but from the side view it looks more like 1870 to me since it is clearly cut for a bustle and not an elliptical hoop. No matter – it’s drop dead gorgeous.

Robe en deux parties. Lyon, vers 1867. Velours de soie brodé or, dentelle de fil or. (Dress in two parts. Lyon, France, c. 1867. Silk velour embroidered in gold, lace of gold thread.)

  1. I seriously cannot even imagine how anyone could create something as complicated as that dress, especially in 1867! It’s beautiful. I always love your Weekend Wows 🙂
