That’s funny, this is the dress that I want to copy for Dickens’ Fair for my daughter. It’s so cool. I love the totally Victorian color combo, no way would someone pick that green trim for that plaid now.

One of the hardest parts of re-creating period dress is getting past our modern eye’s notion of what “works” together and what doesn’t. You are right – no one would pick that trim these days…but it totally works, doesn’t it? 🙂
I love it! How gorgeously gaudy! I made an 1880’s gown out of fabric rather like that. I should have gone for 1850s or 60s instead. 🙂
I must admit, whenever I see fabric like this “gorgeously gaudy” hysteria of color I do think 1850’s and 1860’s. 🙂
